Goodbye Anna

Technorati blog directory

I am sure by now that you have all heard about Anna Nicole Smith's passing. She was only 39. Always one for the spotlight, I thought talking about her "action and drama" packed life is pretty appropriate.

To start off, I think the passing of Anna Nicole is very sad. The last year of her life was very unfortunate and tragic in many ways. She lost her son in a mysterious fashion (most likely accidental drug overdose) and she was in the middle of a custody battle for her little girl -- born just days after her son's passing. Anna passed away alone in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock. The cause of death is currently unknown.

A former Playboy centerfold, Guess Jeans girl, TV actress and sometimes "punchline"; Anna was constantly in the spotlight. Following her marriage to (at the time) 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, her drawn-out legal affairs for the right to his estate consistently made the headlines. Her "reality show" was a major hit and continued to bring attention to this troubled star.

I think that's what drew people to her. This onetime "Goddess" if you will, was being seen at some of her lowest points. It's like driving by a car accident on the rode. You don't want to see it, but you just can't help slowing down to watch. Anna's life was very much the same.

Many comparisons are now being drawn to her and Marilyn Monroe. While there are some very distinct similarities, I don't thing that it's a very fair comparison. Honestly, I don't think there will ever be another Anna Nicole. Her absolute uniqueness made her an interesting person to follow. The tragic end to an up-and-down life will only work to grow her legacy.

What I have found even more troubling, is that it looked like she was on the path to doing a better job of living her life for her children. She had gotten back into shape, looking healthy again. She seemed extremely excited about being a mother again and looked as if she was about to turn the corner. Almost as if she began to realize that it was time to show her maturity as an adult and mother.

Then, her son died. I personally think this set off a catastrophic chain of events that perhaps eventually lessened her desire to live. The loss of a child is always feared and something you wouldn't want or wish upon anyone.

While Anna Nicole smith did not live what most would consider "a normal" life, she was always entertaining. I personally enjoyed watching her reality TV show. Looking back on it now, perhaps we should have seen this coming. Regardless, I think that her story is a very tragic one and the we should not judge her too harshly. I hope that best for her newborn daughter. A very sad story, a very tragic life and death.

Rest in peace Anna Nicole. You will be missed.
